hello there, friend,

you write about the tactile nature of working with clay, the way something grows beneath your own hands, the way it sometimes works out, the way it sometimes doesn't. i think of the way a small shift in one place can change a piece entirely, and the way something beautiful can be the result of something with such a messy start.

it seems sometimes that projects in my own life tend to get messy before they get sorted out. when i reorganize something there is often a royal mess - i've pulled everything out of my closet or a cabinet until everything is sorted through and what remains can be tidied up and put away. when i sew i pull all kinds of fabrics out, sorting through what might work best for a particular project. when i work, fabric and thread are strewn everywhere, seams are sewn and sometimes look a mess, but often in the end something beautiful is created.

sometimes our lives feel messy and in the middle of a mess there can be a lot of work to do, small changes can alter the trajectory of our lives, and we don't always know how things will turn out. but we know that our lives are more beautiful because of the messes, not despite them.

xo,
b
