hello there, friend,

a few days ago, a repairman came to our house to fix our washer. i came home to a working machine and got right to work doing the laundry that had gone undone for the better part of two weeks. as i started the first load i noticed an old stained flannel-lined jacket that had been left behind. when i returned it the next day, the man to whom it belonged was so incredibly grateful, saying it had been his grandfather's. we chatted a bit, as i was grateful to have a working machine again.

as i walked to the car, i thought about the little interactions throughout the day that mark how we can respond to the world around us. do we take the time for small talk, do we smile and say hello, do we make eye contact with our cashier, the other folks pumping gas? do our lives - both inside and outside our home - online and off - reflect the values we say we believe?

i have to believe that i am still learning what it means to respond in love - all the time. that the phrase, 'only love today' is powerful, when i allow it to guide the way i respond to people and situations in my life. thinking about all of this, i read a quote yesterday that resonated with me so strongly, i wanted to share it with you today:

“Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice, here by a smiling look, there by a kindly word; always doing the smallest right and doing it all for love.”
~Therese de Lisieux
