hello there, friend,
i have to work hard not to be focused on the future. i'm constantly scratching out lists of things to do, daydreaming for more time to get them done, wishing for the weekend, for the school day to be over, or for when any number of things happen. i know this is the kind of thinking that robs me of living in the moment.
we've written before about the phrase, 'how we spend our days, is of course, how we spend our lives.' by annie dillard, but i thought about it today as i left work. it occurred to me that at this time in my life, i am grateful for the way i spend my days. i have work that is satisfying and meaningful, i am able to be home with my kids before and after school, i have meaningful relationships with friends and family. life is full of the goodness of living, when i stop for a minute and take inventory.
it takes practice to live in the moment. as with so many other things, it's the practice is what allows for growth. and so i practice being grateful - that is precisely what allows me to be grateful for what i already have without wishing any of it away.
xo,
b
