hello there, friend,
somehow our paths crossed because of our mutual love for photography. i wish i could remember how! when i first picked up our ‘family’ camera, it was because i wanted to be able to take a picture of something i thought was beautiful. i had been reading blogs for years and my favorites were beautiful essays paired with images that sometimes had me catching my breath.
as much as i wanted to be able to savor memories of my
children, i also wanted to use the camera to help me notice every day beauty. i
turned to flickr for inspiration and found others who took pictures of simple every day moments. i continued to read blogs and to look at images, thinking
about what they evoked inside me.
soon after i was introduced to the idea of taking a picture
every single day. this year is my fourth
year doing a 365 project. although it can be challenging (there are days when i forget to pick up the
camera until the end of the day, there were times when i
knew i didn’t know enough about my camera or light to take the kind of image i
wanted). but, the daily practice of
taking pictures and then writing something about the day has helped me to slow
down, to look around, and to pay more attention to the things that are
important. it’s helped me process when i needed that, it’s helped me make
connections with others, and to practice gratitude. i can't imagine not doing it. and yes, i wish we could sit down over coffee and talk about our experiences... about what we've learned over time. how that's created shifts within us toward vulnerability and gratitude, both.
xo,
b
