daily letters between friends blog

Hello there, friend,

I seriously underestimated how exhausted I'd be after visiting my friend this weekend. I was gone from home for 30 hours and spent eight of them driving. But the trip was worth it. We talked and laughed, her girls brushed my hair, I photographed their family, and held her newborn baby. We decided we hadn't physically seen each other in over ten years, but thanks to the internet we haven't lost touch. I am grateful.

When I returned home, my two little people greeted me with squeals and hugs. "I missed you so much I cried," my daughter said. I was grateful to be home to eat tacos at my kitchen table, then sit on the couch and watch a movie, my husband and I on opposite ends with the kids and our dog wedged between us.

We went to bed early, thanking whoever invented Daylight Savings Time that we could go to bed at 8:30 on a Saturday night and not feel like total losers. And yet this morning I awoke so utterly exhausted. By noon I was back in my pajamas and in bed for a two-hour nap. I spent the rest of the afternoon in bed, reading with kids taking their turn lying beside me. Eventually we all just piled in the bed to watch a show, and the light poured in through the blinds making a grid on the wall.

Sundays are so good for do-nothingness. I hope yours was too.

xo,
L
